G’day all – welcome to Tuesday, the tennis has started, so naturally the weather in South East England has taken a turn for the worse.

Steven Scott, East Sussex based Double Trap Clay Target shooter spent last week competing at the European Shotgun Championship, which were held in Budapest Hungary. The weather conditions and facilities had been ideal throughout the 5 day trip. After 5 qualification rounds of 30 targets Scott was lying 2nd overall. The top 6 shooters make it to the final to gain a shot at Gold. The positions from qualification are reset and the hard work starts all over again, with all of the final shooters missing at least 2 targets out of the first 6 the competition was all to play for. After a very tense shoot off, Scott and Russian shooter and Olympic bronze medallist & world number one Vasily Mosin were leading on steady 27/30. Scott and Mosin, had a brief moment to compose whilst Italian shooter Marco Innocenti & Slovakian shooter Andrezej Hubert Olejnkink battled it out for bronze with the Italian taking the Bronze medal Position.

Scott and Mosin fought it out for a further 30 targets with each of them shooting an impressive 29 neither seemed to be effected by the high pressured final. It was now time to go to a sudden death shoot off both shooters hit their first pairs cleanly, the next pair Scott hit and Mosin dropped one target. Scott takes the European Double Trap Champion 2014 title and Russian shooter Mosin takes the silver medal position.

Steve Scott European champion

After speaking with Scott he says “I am so pleased with todays performance I have been working extremely hard the last two seasons with my New coach Ahmed Al Maktoum (Olympic Gold Medalist). Today i felt everything came together and the seasons efforts have certainly paid off. I wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t have the support from Ahmed. I would also like to say thank you to UK Sport, National Lottery funding and British shooting for their support.

It has been a great competition for the Double Trap Team winning an individual Senior Gold Meal, an Individual Junior (under 21) Silver medal and both the Senior Men (Steve Scott, Matt French & Tim Kneale) and Junior men(James Deadman, Connor Gorsuch & Max Jefferies) both winning Silver team medals. Steve is also looking for sponsorship at the moment if you are interested please email stevescottgbr@live.com.

Elsewhere – the BGP of COMPAK being held this weekend at Barbury Shooting Scholl is filling up nicely, with just a few places left on the Saturday and Sunday, definitely worth getting in touch with the ground if you want to enter this excellent event.

Dartford Clay Shooting Club have let me know that their successful monthly sporting competitions will now run until the end of the year, with shoots being held on July 26th, August 30th, September 27th, October 25th, November 29th and December 13th.  With a HG prize of £100 and prizes down the classes for just £36 – these seem like excellent value.  Full details on the flyer below – or by visiting the Dartford Shooting Ground website.
