Barbury Shooting School in Wiltshire was the venue for the two day Compak British Grand Prix – it wasn’t EXACTLY blazing June, but bright skies and a light breeze welcomed shooters to five great layouts of Compak – being run to European rules, and providing some good tests to shooters.

Day one saw some big scores being built – Mark Winser, fresh from two stellar rounds at the Clay Shooting Classic, put in a very credible 122×125 – including 4 straight parcours, Julian Fairburn putting in a 118 and George Digweed MBE scoring a sold 117, but all were pipped by an overnight leader; Adam Cork who scored an incredible 124ex125.

As day two dawned, it was clear that the top shots remaining needed to be on their game to compete with these massive scores. Cheryl Hall continued a strong weekend with a 121, as did Andy Seaman in the Vets division, Chris Childerhouse hit a solid 120, and Trevor Stanton and Julian Freeman were one behind on 119, with Ed Solomons one further back on 118.

So, the day one scores stood and at the end of Sunday the British Grand Prix of Compak had been won by Adam Cork on 124ex125, with Mark Winser in 2nd place, and Chris Childerhouse taking the Bronze.   The Ladies category was won by Cheryl Hall, with Linda Grayson in Silver and Pet Easton in Bronze.

The Vets class was won by Andy Seaman, with Steve Grant in Silver and Brian Dunbavin in Bronze and the Super Vets class was won by Trevor Stanton, from John Bidwell in silver and Frank Haigh in Bronze.

The juniors class (sponsored by shootclay.co.uk) was won in a tense shoot off by Jack Lovick, from Taylor Hedgecock in Silver and Nathan Batchelor in third place.

General thoughts from shooters at the event was that Barbury Shooting School put on an excellent two days of shooting, with great targets and a good atmosphere, the event ran to time (even ahead of time), and that catering and facilities were in excellent order.

The event was supported by great sponsors, including Porsche of Swindon, Braces of Bristol, Essex Guns, Wiltshire Rod and Gun, Nick Woodward and Martin Papworth.
